چکیده
We discuss how laboratory experiments can be used to place constraints on possible variations of the fine structure constant α in the observationally relevant redshift interval z ≃ 0 − 5, within a rather general theoretical framework. We find a worst case upper limit for ∆α/α of 8 × 10 −6 for z ≤ 5 and ∆α/α of 0.9 × 10 −6 for z ≤ 1.6. The derived limits are at variance with the recent findings by Webb et al. (1998), who claim an observed variation of ∆α/α = −2.6 ± 0.4 × 10 −5 at 1 < z < 1.6.

The constituent quark model can explain the strong selectivity of the Nη decay branching ratios of the nucleon resonances if the fine structure interaction between the constituent quarks is described in terms of Goldstone boson exchange. This chiral quark model predicts that the S wavefunctions in lowest order, should have large Nη branching ratios, while Nη decay of the other resonances that h...

Atomic optical clocks and search for variation of the fine structure constant. Abstract Theories unifying gravity and other interactions suggest the possibility of spatial and temporal variation of physical " constants ". Accuracy achieved for the atomic optical frequency standards (optical clocks) approaches the level when possible time evolution of the fine structure constant α can be studied...

We cast the q-rotor in the framework of Barnett-Pegg theory for rotation angle, whose underlying algebra is SUq(2). A new method to fix the deformation parameter from the theory is suggested. We test our ideas by fitting rotational spectra in deformed even-even and superdeformed nuclei. The results are in good agreement with the previous phenomenological applications of q-rotor model.

The phase structure associated with the chiral symmetry is thoroughly investigated at finite temperature in the supersymmetric Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with a soft SUSY breaking term. It is found that the chiral symmetry broken at vanishing temperature is recovered at sufficiently high temperature and the symmetry restoration takes place as the first order as well as second order phase transiti...

The solutions to the Einstein-Klein-Gordon equations without a cosmological constant are investigated for an exponential potential in a Bianchi VI0 metric. There exists a two-parameter family of solutions which have a power-law inflationary behaviour when the exponent of the potential, k, satisfies k2 < 2. In addition, there exists a twoparameter family of singular solutions for all k2 values. ...
